Inserted: Section 5311(h)(3) of title 49, United States Code, as amended by this Act, is amended--
Inserted: (1) in subparagraph (B), by striking "and" at the end;
Inserted: (2) in subparagraph (C), by striking the period at the end and inserting "; and"; and
Inserted: (3) by adding at the end the following:
Inserted: "(D) in the case of operating costs of connecting rural intercity bus feeder service funded under subsection (f)(1)(E), may be derived from the costs of intercity bus service provided by a private operator, if--
Inserted: "(i) the project includes both feeder service and a connecting unsubsidized intercity route segment; and
Inserted: "(ii) the private operator agrees in writing to the use of its unsubsidized costs as an in-kind match.".

SA 1698. Mrs. MURRAY submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by her to the bill S. 1813, to reauthorize Federal-aid highway and highway safety construction programs, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows:
At the appropriate place, insert the following:
SEC. __. PRIVATE OPERATORS OF INTERCITY BUS SERVICE.
Section 5311(h)(3) of title 49, United States Code, as amended by this Act, is amended--
(1) in subparagraph (B), by striking “and” at the end;
(2) in subparagraph (C), by striking the period at the end and inserting “; and”; and
(3) by adding at the end the following:
“(D) in the case of operating costs of connecting rural intercity bus feeder service funded under subsection (f)(1)(E), may be derived from the costs of intercity bus service provided by a private operator, if--
“(i) the project includes both feeder service and a connecting unsubsidized intercity route segment; and
