SA 728. Mr. MURPHY submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 2226, to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2024 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: At the end of subtitle F of title III, add the following: SEC. 359. COLLECTION OF INFORMATION RELATING TO FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION. (a) In General.--The Secretary of Defense may collect or record information about the lawful possession, ownership, carrying, or other use of a privately owned firearm or ammunition by members of the Armed Forces and civilian employees of the Department of Defense if such information is necessary for the purposes of injury and mortality prevention. (b) Conforming Amendments.--Section 1062(a) of the Ike Skelton National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011 (Public Law 111-383; 10 U.S.C. 1030 note prec.) is amended, in the matter preceding paragraph (1)-- (1) by striking ``prohibit,'' and inserting ``prohibit or''; and (2) by striking ``, or collect or record any information relating to''. ______
