A BILL
To amend the Uniform Time Act of 1966 to modify the State exemption
provisions for advancement of time.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. MODIFICATION OF STATE EXEMPTION PROVISIONS FOR ADVANCEMENT
OF TIME.
(a) In General.--Section 3(a) of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (15
U.S.C. 260a(a)) is amended by striking ``either the entire State as
provided in (1) or may exempt the entire area of the State lying within
any time zone'' and inserting ``the entire State as provided in (1)''.
(b) Application.--Notwithstanding section (3)(b) of the Uniform
Time Act of 1966, the amendment made by subsection (a) shall not apply
to any State which enacts a law after the date of the enactment of this
Act and prior to April 6, 2004, which exempts the entire area of the
State lying within any time zone from the provisions of section 3(a) of
the Uniform Time Act of 1966 providing for the advancement of time.
(c) Effective Date.--
(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), this section shall
take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act.
(2) The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect
April 5, 2005.
