Mr. Hoekstra submitted the following resolution; which was referred to
the Committee on Education and the Workforce

RESOLUTION
Recognizing the outstanding contributions of the faculty, staff,
students, and alumni of Christian colleges and universities.
Whereas the United States has benefited greatly from over 1,000 Christian
colleges, beginning with the Nation's first Christian college in 1636;
Whereas 900 such campuses continue to self-identify themselves as religious
institutions, adding to the rich diversity of higher education in the
Nation;
Whereas more than 125 Christian colleges today make their distinction the
intentional relationship of scholarship and service to biblical truth as
members or affiliates of the Council for Christian Colleges &
Universities, working collaboratively through more than 100 Council
programs and services;
Whereas the Council's member institutions, located in 30 States and representing
more than 30 religious traditions, have experienced enrollment growth
during the last decade that was 8 times the average growth in all of
higher education to where more than 200,000 students and 15,000 faculty
comprise these institutions today;
Whereas 80 percent of Council students participate in experiential learning and
99 percent participate in some form of service and learning through
extracurricular activities;
Whereas in a national survey of Council member campus alumni, 95 percent
reported that their college education helped them develop moral
principles that guide their actions, 90 percent said their college
helped them develop a sense of purpose in life, and that Council alumni
place a high priority on community service, helping the disadvantaged
and strongly agreed that their college life prepared them to achieve
success while engaging Christian principles;
Whereas the Nation benefits for generations from those who choose intentionally
Christ-centered higher education campuses to prepare themselves for
every field including science, business, education, government,
medicine, the arts, and in volunteer community service; and
Whereas the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities recognizes the month
of October as Christian Higher Education Month: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the university campuses affiliated with the
Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, and other faith-
based campuses; and
(2) supports the goals and ideas of Christian Higher
Education Month.
