A BILL
To limit the development or implementation of a return-free tax system.
Short title
This Act may be cited as the Tax Return Choice Act of 2006
.
Return-free tax system
Limitation
The Internal Revenue Service shall not develop or provide taxpayers with free individual tax electronic preparation and filing services except through the Free File program and the Internal Revenue Service’s Taxpayer Assistance Centers, Tax Counseling for the Elderly, and volunteer income tax assistance programs.
Repeal of general authority
Section 2004 of the Internal Revenue Service Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 is hereby repealed.
Effective date
The amendment made by this section shall take effect on the date of enactment of this Act.
