A bill for the relief of Jorge Rojas Gutierrez and Oliva Gonzalez.

Introduced March 7, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 1:27 PM UTC

This private bill would give Jorge Rojas Gutierrez and Oliva Gonzalez the ability to obtain U.S. lawful permanent resident status. It lets each apply for an immigrant visa or adjust status, even though they do not meet the usual eligibility rules, as long as they file within two years and pay the required fees. The measure also slightly reduces the overall visa pool for their country of birth to offset the two visas granted.

Key Provisions

  • Allows each person to apply for an immigrant visa or adjust to permanent resident status, overriding the normal immigration‑law restrictions.
  • If either person enters the U.S. before the filing deadline, their entry is treated as lawful and they can adjust status under the usual adjustment‑of‑status rules.
  • Applications and fees must be submitted within two years of the bill’s enactment.
  • The Secretary of State must reduce the total immigrant visas available to natives of their birth country by two, either for the current or next fiscal year.
  • A PAYGO budget statement is required to assess any fiscal impact.
