A bill for the relief of Alicia Aranda De Buendia.

Introduced March 7, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 1:27 PM UTC

The bill grants Alicia Aranda De Buendia the ability to obtain a U.S. immigrant visa or adjust her status to lawful permanent resident, even though current immigration law would otherwise bar her. It sets a two‑year window for her to apply and pay the required fees, and it treats her as lawfully present if she enters the U.S. before that deadline. The legislation also requires the State Department to reduce the overall visa allocation for her country of birth by one, and it includes a standard PAYGO budget‑impact statement.

Key Provisions

  • Allows Alicia Aranda De Buendia to apply for an immigrant visa or adjust status to permanent resident despite existing statutory restrictions.
  • If she enters the U.S. before the filing deadline, she is considered to have entered lawfully and can adjust status under the usual rules.
  • She must submit her visa or adjustment application with the proper fees within two years of the bill’s enactment.
  • The Secretary of State must reduce the total immigrant visa numbers available to natives of her birth country by one, either for the current or next fiscal year.
  • A PAYGO budget impact statement must be provided before the bill is voted on.
