AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 3:32 AM UTC

The bill changes the original purpose of a parcel of land in Los Angeles that the federal government gave to the state of California. It adds "meeting the needs of the homeless" as an allowed use of that property. The change requires California to apply for the new use and for federal agencies to approve it before the deed can be officially modified.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the 1957 law that transferred the land to allow the property to be used for homeless assistance, as defined by the McKinney‑Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
  • Requires California to submit an application to the General Services Administration (GSA) requesting the homeless‑service use of the property.
  • Mandates that the GSA Administrator and the Secretary of Health and Human Services review the application and decide within 60 days whether the proposed use meets the homeless‑needs definition.
  • If approved, the GSA Administrator must issue a new deed amendment authorizing the homeless‑service use and may add conditions to protect U.S. interests.
