AI-Generated Summary

Updated February 8, 2026 at 10:18 AM UTC

The bill restores veterans' right to receive educational assistance under the Veterans Rapid Retraining Assistance Program when a school closes or a program is disapproved. It ensures that veterans do not lose their entitlement because they cannot finish a course due to these events. The changes affect veterans using the program and the educational institutions that receive payments.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a new subsection that says any retraining assistance paid for a veteran who cannot complete a program because the school closed or the program was disapproved will not count against the veteran’s overall entitlement.
  • Specifies that the period not charged equals the full amount of assistance that was provided for the interrupted enrollment.
  • Stops further payments to the educational institution that closed or had its program disapproved.
  • Amends a related provision to exclude individuals covered by the new subsection from certain period restrictions.
  • Makes the amendments effective as if they were originally part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
