AI-Generated Summary

Updated January 20, 2026 at 8:18 AM UTC

The bill aims to settle Indian land disputes in Illinois by giving the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma a chance to bring a claim based on the 1805 Treaty of Grouseland. It grants the U.S. Court of Federal Claims jurisdiction to hear that claim, ignoring normal time limits and defenses, and makes the United States the only party liable. It also sets a one‑year deadline for filing the claim and eliminates any other related claims by the tribe or its members.

Key Provisions

  • The U.S. Court of Federal Claims is given jurisdiction to hear and decide a land claim by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma under the Treaty of Grouseland, regardless of statutes of limitations or defenses such as laches or estoppel.
  • The United States is designated as the sole liable entity for any judgment arising from that claim.
  • The court’s jurisdiction expires one year after the law’s enactment unless the Miami Tribe files the claim within that period.
  • All other claims by the Miami Tribe, its members, descendants, or predecessors to title under the Treaty of Grouseland are extinguished.
