H.R. 10155 changes the way certain active‑duty time is counted for members of the Reserve components. It makes that active‑duty service count as if it were performed as a regular (active‑component) service member, which can lower the age at which reservists become eligible for retirement. The change applies to qualifying service performed after Jan. 28, 2008 and affects reservists seeking earlier retirement benefits.

Key Provisions

  • Amends 10 U.S.C. § 12731(f)(2) by removing the phrase “as a member of the Ready Reserve.”
  • Adds a new clause stating that the specified active‑duty service also counts as service as a regular (active‑component) member.
  • Makes the amendment apply retroactively to qualifying active‑duty service performed after Jan. 28, 2008.
