REVOKE Act

Introduced September 2, 2026

AI-Generated Summary

Updated September 3, 2026 at 11:50 AM UTC

The REVOKE Act amends the federal motor carrier regulations to require that any employer or person operating certain commercial motor vehicles must have an active USDOT number. It gives the Department of Transportation authority to issue, maintain, or immediately deactivate those numbers based on compliance with registration requirements. The rule applies to motor carriers, freight brokers, and other entities that need a USDOT registration to operate commercially.

Key Provisions

  • Changes the law to require an *active* USDOT number (instead of just any USDOT number) for anyone conducting operations that need registration under the motor carrier rules.
  • The Secretary of Transportation may only issue an active USDOT number after confirming the applicant meets all registration requirements.
  • If a carrier’s registration lapses or they fail to provide required updates, the Secretary must immediately inactivate their USDOT number.
  • Re‑numbers existing subsections and inserts the new active‑number requirement as a new subsection (e).
