Mr. Ivey introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

A BILL

To amend chapter 4 of title 5, United States Code, to provide 10 year terms of service for Inspectors General, to provide that Inspectors General may only be removed for cause, and for other purposes.

1.

Short title

This Act may be cited as the Inspectors General Modernization Act.

2.

10 year term of service for Inspectors General; removal only for cause

Title 5, United States Code, is amended—

(1)

in section 403—

(A)

in subsection (a), by inserting after the first sentence the following: The term of service of the Inspector General shall be ten years.; and

(B)

in subsection (b), by striking may be removed from office by the President and inserting may be removed from office by the President only for cause; and

(2)

in section 415—

(A)

in subsection (c), by inserting after the second sentence the following: The term of service of the Inspector General shall be ten years.; and

(B)

in subsection (e), by inserting only for cause and after made.
