The Rural Disaster Fairness Act of 2026 changes the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 to make disaster impact measurements more fair for rural counties. It adds a new rule that lowers the damage threshold needed for public assistance in counties where most land isn’t taxed, helping those sparsely populated areas get aid more easily.

Key Provisions

  • Renumbers the existing subsection (b) of the local impact section to subsection (c).
  • Creates a new subsection (b) that requires the FAA Administrator to cut the public‑assistance damage threshold by half for any county where less than 15% of its land is subject to real‑property taxes.
