Introduced February 24, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated November 24, 2025 at 2:29 AM UTC

The China Financial Threat Mitigation Act of 2025 directs the Treasury to examine the United States’ exposure to the People’s Republic of China’s financial sector and to report its findings within a year. The report will evaluate potential risks to U.S. and global financial stability, review the reliability of Chinese economic data, and recommend steps the U.S. and its international partners should take. The findings will be shared with congressional committees and made publicly available, except for any classified annex.

Key Provisions

  • The Treasury Secretary must, within one year, conduct a study on how the United States is exposed to China’s financial sector, working with the Fed, SEC, CFTC, and State Department.
  • The study must assess how risks in China’s financial system could affect the U.S. and global markets, describe U.S. policies aimed at protecting financial stability, evaluate the reliability of Chinese economic data, and suggest actions for the U.S. and international partners.
  • The resulting report must be sent to the relevant House and Senate committees and to U.S. representatives at international organizations, be largely unclassified (with a possible classified annex), and be posted publicly on the Treasury’s website.
