The Extend the TikTok Deadline Act updates an existing law that requires the video‑sharing app TikTok to be sold to a U.S. entity to avoid a ban. It lengthens the required sale deadline from about nine months to roughly eighteen months, giving the company additional time to find a U.S. buyer. The change primarily affects TikTok, its current owners, and U.S. users of the app.

Key Provisions

  • Changes the deadline in the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act from 270 days to 540 days, giving TikTok more time to be sold to a U.S. owner before a ban could be imposed.
