The No GRIFT Act of 2026 bars certain charities from receiving Department of Justice grants. Specifically, if a nonprofit gets over 50% of its revenue from DOJ grants and pays an officer or employee more than the Attorney General’s salary, it becomes ineligible for future DOJ funding. The bill also requires grant applicants to certify they are not disqualified.

Key Provisions

  • A nonprofit that gets more than half of its money from Department of Justice (DOJ) grants and pays any officer or employee more than the Attorney General’s annual salary cannot receive DOJ grants for that fiscal year.
  • Any nonprofit applying for a DOJ grant must certify to the Attorney General that it does not meet the disqualification criteria.
  • The rule applies only to tax‑exempt 501(c)(3) organizations.
