Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act

Introduced January 15, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated November 24, 2025 at 3:33 AM UTC

The Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act seeks to eliminate the Corporate Transparency Act, which had required many private companies to report information about their owners to the government. By revoking that law and cleaning up related statutory references, the bill would stop the filing and public‑access requirements for beneficial‑ownership data, affecting corporations, LLCs, and other entities that were subject to those reporting rules.

Key Provisions

  • Repeals the Corporate Transparency Act, eliminating the federal requirement that certain companies disclose their beneficial owners.
  • Removes references to the Corporate Transparency Act in Title 31 of the U.S. Code, adjusting sections 5321 and 5322 to delete mentions of the repealed provisions.
  • Repeals specific sections (e.g., section 6502) of the Anti‑Money Laundering Act of 2020 that were added by the Corporate Transparency Act and updates related language in section 6509.
