This joint resolution tells Congress to reject a rule the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) submitted that would withdraw an existing regulation on the permissible purposes for furnishing, using, and obtaining consumer credit reports. By disapproving the rule, it would prevent the withdrawal from taking effect, keeping the original credit‑reporting rules in place. The action mainly affects the CFPB and anyone who relies on the current credit‑reporting standards, such as lenders and consumers.

Key Provisions

  • Congress disapproves the CFPB’s rule that would withdraw the Fair Credit Reporting permissible‑purposes regulation, rendering that rule ineffective.
