Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life of Mr. John Bernard Owens, affectionately known as ``Gadget,'' a beloved father, grandfather, and community member whose legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to his family will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Born on January 15, 1938, in Buffalo, New York, to the late John and Mary (Blount) Owens, Mr. Owens was one of eight children. He graduated from the Lackawanna School District, after which he spent over 30 years in the industrial industry, eventually retiring from the Buffalo Brake Beam Steel Company.

Mr. Owens was an active member of the Greater Love Fellowship of Buffalo under the leadership of Elder George Herring. His deep faith and commitment to his community were always evident. Anyone who knew Mr. Owens knew he had many passions. He was a devoted family man, and to him, ``family was everything.'' He was known for his generosity, always giving and helping others in need. His love for his family and his desire to be there for others left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

Mr. Owens was also a passionate sports fan. His favorite teams were the Buffalo Sabres and the Baltimore Ravens. He also had a great appreciation for music, especially the timeless songs of The Beatles, which brought him much joy throughout his life. Whether cheering for his teams or sharing his love for music, Mr. Owens brought joy to those around him.

Mr. Owens was predeceased by several loved ones, including his wife Clara, son Jamar, grandson Derrick, and several siblings. He is survived by his children John (Voncille), Clarice, Michael (Marie), Terrance, Desiree, Rodney (Nan), and Anthony Owens; his sister Eunice (Lester) Hubbard; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. John Bernard Owens lived a life of devotion to his family, his community, and his faith. His unwavering commitment to those he loved and his generosity towards others made a profound impact on all who knew him. Mr. Owens was a man who believed in the importance of family above all else and worked tirelessly to provide for and support those around him. His kindness, loyalty, and the warmth of his heart will forever be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a globally revered spiritual and humanitarian leader who has spearheaded an unprecedented worldwide movement for a stress-free, violence-free society. Through his organizations, including the Art of Living and the International Association for Human Values, Gurudev Shankar has impacted an estimated 800 million people across 180 countries. His programs have empowered individuals to tackle challenges at the global, national, community, and individual levels.

Gurudev Shankar was born in 1956 in Southern India, where he demonstrated his spiritual and intellectual gifts at an early age. By the age of four, Gurudev Shankar was reciting the Bhagavad Gita and meditating. In 1982, during a ten-day period of silence, Gurudev Shankar developed Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful breathing technique that became central to the Art of Living courses, offering stress relief and well-being to millions.

Gurudev Shankar founded The Art of Living as an international non- profit organization dedicated to fostering peace and human values. He also established the International Association for Human Values to support sustainable development and conflict resolution worldwide. His programs have made significant impacts in conflict zones such as Kashmir, Colombia, and Iraq, and have provided trauma relief for war veterans and communities affected by violence.

In addition to his global peace efforts, Gurudev Shankar is committed to education and environmental conservation. His initiatives have led to the creation of over 1,300 schools providing free education to underserved children in India, and his organization has planted over 100 million trees across the globe. Furthermore, The Art of Living's prison program has reached over 800,000 prisoners, helping to rehabilitate and reintegrate them into society.

Mr. Speaker, it is an honor to recognize Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as he visits Western New York to lead ''The Journey Within,'' an evening of meditation and wisdom offering a unique opportunity for attendees to experience his transformative teachings firsthand. His lifelong commitment to peace, education, and humanitarian work continues to inspire millions worldwide, and we are all the better for it.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to celebrate the incredible career of a consummate public servant and my friend, Otis T. Barker, Sr., or as his friends call him, OTB.

For nearly three decades, Otis has been at the heart and soul of Buffalo's community services, dedicating his life to uplifting our city's children and families. From his trailblazing career in business to his tireless work in public service, Otis has always led with integrity, passion, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Buffalo.

Otis' public service journey began in 1996 when deputy speaker of the New York State Assembly Arthur O. Eve hired him as his chief of staff. From 1996 to 2002, Otis was at the center of State and community affairs, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that shape our neighborhoods.

In 2006, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown tapped him to serve as director of the Division of Youth. His leadership continued to grow, serving as deputy commissioner in 2011 and, ultimately, commissioner of community services and recreational programming in 2017, where he oversaw critical programs for our youth, our seniors, our workforce, and our recreational spaces.

As commissioner, Otis Barker helped over 30,000 young people find opportunities through the mayor's summer youth internship program, giving Buffalo's next generation a path forward.

Otis' service didn't stop with government. He spent his time coaching Little League baseball, leading the North Buffalo Little League Football Organization, and coaching high school basketball, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in young athletes across our city.

At his retirement earlier this month, Buffalo's mayor surprised Otis with the renaming of the basketball courts in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park as the Otis T. Barker Sr. Basketball Courts, a fitting tribute to someone who has helped make athletics more accessible for our young people.

Otis' impact extends into Buffalo's faith and music communities, where he directs and assists choirs at St. John's Baptist Church and the Var-Son Community Choir. His voice, both in leadership and in song, has lifted up so many in our community.

Buffalo will miss him in city hall, but I am confident that his mentorship, leadership, and boundless generosity will continue throughout his retirement, and I have no doubt he will continue his commitment to our city as he also enjoys more time with his wonderful family and friends.

Mr. Speaker, I thank OTB for making our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. I wish my friend a well-earned and rewarding retirement. We love him. Congratulations and Godspeed.

Mr. Speaker, I rise to recognize the incredible impact of IceCycle Buffalo, an annual fundraising event held in Buffalo, New York, where participants engage in 45-minute indoor cycling sessions on ice to raise funds for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This unique event brings together 13 fitness studios and approximately 1,600 riders. Participants will take part in a 45-minute cycling class on ice, all while raising funds for crucial research and programs at Roswell Park. Now in its fifth year, the Western New York fitness community is once again coining together for cancer patients everywhere. Each pedal stroke on their bike makes participants part of something bigger--helping to shape the future of cancer care and research.

Each year, more than 49,000 patients trust Roswell Park with their cancer journeys. By supporting IceCycle Buffalo, participants are ensuring that Roswell Park researchers and clinicians can continue to innovate and bring the newest, most cutting-edge treatments and technologies to cancer patients. Roswell Park develops cancer-fighting methods that were mere hopes a decade ago. With the help of donor support through events like IceCycle Buffalo, groundbreaking advancements are being made in the way cancer is diagnosed, treated, and ultimately cured.

Mr. Speaker, Roswell Park is committed to the care of the whole person. Their work extends beyond medical treatment to include the mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of every patient. Participants in IceCycle Buffalo help to guarantee that Roswell Park's leading experts can continue to run quality of life programs that support every patient and caregiver who steps through their doors. Through events like IceCycle Buffalo and the dedicated efforts of everyone involved, residents in Western New York continue making incredible strides in the fight against cancer, and we are all the better for it.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to celebrate Mr. Otis T. Barker, Sr. and his remarkable career of service to the City of Buffalo as he enters into retirement after many years of dedicated work. Mr. Barker is a lifelong resident of the City of Buffalo, raised in the Kenfield/Langfield neighborhood and received his education in the Buffalo Public Schools and at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Mr. Barker's career began as a seasonal stock clerk for the Adam, Meldrum & Anderson department store, where he worked for 14 years. After several promotions, Mr. Barker became the company's first African American male to hold the executive title of buyer in its 125 year history. Soon after, Mr. Barker was hired by the former Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Arthur O. Eve, to serve as Chief of Staff from 1996 through 2002. This experience deepened his understanding of his community and the affairs of New York State.

After the retirement of Deputy Speaker Eve, Otis Barker joined then- New York State Senator Byron W. Brown's team as Director of Community Relations. When Senator Brown became Mayor of the City of Buffalo in 2006, Mr. Barker was appointed Director of the Division for Youth, where he managed the Mayor's Summer Youth Internship Program and the Mayor's Summer Reading Program. In 2011, Mr. Barker was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Community Services and Recreational Programming, where he managed seven divisions, including Youth Services, Senior Services, Disabled Parking Permits, and Workforce Development. Later, in 2017, Mr. Barker was appointed Commissioner of Community Services and Recreational Programming, where his leadership and dedication continued to shape the city's services for the better.

Mr. Barker is a proud father of four children--Otis Jr., Jarred, Ondrea, and Peyton, and a grandfather to three--Destiny, Olivia, and Omeir. As he retires, Mr. Barker looks forward to spending more time with his family and finally getting some well-deserved rest.

Today, as Mr. Barker retires from his decades of dedicated service, we celebrate not only his professional accomplishments but also his dedication to mentorship, his commitment to his faith, and his tireless work to better the City of Buffalo. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Otis T. Barker, Sr. on a career well spent, and wishing him well as he enters this new chapter of his life.

Mr. Speaker, I rise to recognize and celebrate the National Association of Women in Construction, Buffalo Niagara Chapter 388, as they reflect on their remarkable journey since being organized in September 2020. Founded by Jillian Penkin, who had been an active member of the NAWIC Greater Rochester chapter for over a decade before relocating to the Buffalo area, the chapter was quickly established with the help of twenty-five other women in the construction industry.

The National Association of Women in Construction began in 1953 as ``Women in Construction of Fort Worth, TX,'' founded by sixteen women working in the construction sector. At a time when women were a minority in the industry, the founders sought to create a supportive community for women in a male-dominated field. The organization's success led to its national charter in 1955, officially becoming the National Association of Women in Construction.

Today, the National Association of Women in Construction has expanded to more than 115 chapters across 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam and continues to grow. Dedicated to professional development, education, networking, leadership training, and public service, the organization has been a strong advocate for women in the construction industry. In 2019, it awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving individuals pursuing education in construction-related fields.

Women in Construction Week aims to spotlight women as a crucial and visible force in the construction industry. It also provides a meaningful opportunity for local chapters to contribute to their communities. During Women in Construction Week, the National Association of Women in Construction's thousands of members across the country come together to raise awareness about the wide range of opportunities for women in construction and emphasize the expanding role women play in the field.

Today, as we celebrate the National Association of Women in Construction Chapter 388 for their ongoing efforts to advance women's roles in this vital field, let us continue to uphold the vision of its founders, ensuring that

the contributions and impact of women builders, professionals, and tradeswomen are acknowledged across every facet of the construction industry.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize and celebrate Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day, observed on March 23rd, an important occasion that honors the deep rooted historical ties and enduring friendship between Poland and Hungary. This day is a tribute to the centuries-long relationship between the two nations, built on mutual support, shared values, and a commitment to independence.

The bond between Poland and Hungary dates back over a thousand years, with moments of solidarity that have shaped the history of both countries. From the 13th century, when Polish and Hungarian royalty intermarried, to the shared struggles against foreign domination and the fight for independence, the two nations have stood together in times of adversity.

In the 20th century, the friendship between Poland and Hungary was again tested during both World Wars, where the peoples of both counties supported each other in the face of oppression. One of the most pivotal moments came during the 1956 Hungarian Uprising against Soviet control, which was met with strong support from the Polish people, solidifying the bond between the nations.

Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day was officially established in 2007 as a way to celebrate and strengthen these historical and cultural ties. On this day, both countries come together to celebrate their shared heritage through cultural performances, exhibitions, diplomatic meetings, and joint commemorations.

It is a day of mutual respect and admiration, where citizens of both Poland and Hungary honor the legacy of their friendship and the importance of international unity.

As we celebrate Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day, let us reflect on the values that have brought our nations together: freedom, solidarity, and a commitment to each other's well being. May this day continue to inspire future generations to uphold the bonds of friendship and work together for a stronger, more connected world.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize John J. Flynn, who served as the 41st District Attorney of Erie County, New York. Mr Flynn is celebrated as Irishman of the Year by the Amherst Gaelic League at their 51st Irish Appreciation Party, an honor that reflects his distinguished career and significant contributions to the community.

Mr. Flynn, a Western New York native, graduated from East Aurora High School and Bowling Green State University with a degree in Political Science. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving as Assistant Supply Officer aboard the USS Cleveland (LPD-7) in San Diego, deploying to the Western Pacific and serving during the Gulf War. After his naval service, he attended the University at Buffalo School of Law, continuing his Naval Reserve duties. Upon graduating in 1995, he returned to active duty in the Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps as a Navy attorney at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida, and was appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney.

In 2001, Mr. Flynn returned to Western New York, joining the Erie County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney and quickly rising to the Homicide Bureau. He then entered private practice, working as a personal injury attorney and lecturing at SUNY Buffalo State from 2002 to 2016. Mr. Flynn served in the Naval Reserves until his retirement in 2017 with the rank of Commander and four additional Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals. His public service began in 2003 with his election to the Town of Tonawanda Town Board, followed by appointments as Town Justice in 2006, acting Buffalo City Court Judge, and Town Attorney in 2010. In 2016, Mr. Flynn was elected as Erie County District Attorney, taking office on January 1, 2017, and was re-elected in 2020 for a second term.

Mr. Speaker, John J. Flynn's remarkable career and dedication to public service stand as a powerful symbol of integrity, commitment, and leadership. His tireless work as District Attorney, his service in the Navy, and his deep involvement in the community exemplify his unwavering commitment to justice and progress. Mr. Flynn's recognition as Irishman of the Year by the Amherst Gaelic League is a fitting tribute to his lifelong contributions to both his heritage and the greater community. His efforts for justice, inclusivity, and service inspire us to embrace the values of unity and leadership, working toward a brighter, more united future for everyone.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today in strong opposition to President Trump and Elon Musk's attacks on the safety nets that countless western New Yorkers and people across the country have earned and need. Hardworking Americans rely on the promise of a secure and dignified retirement. That promise is called Social Security, and it is a solemn promise we must keep.

Yet, from Elon Musk accessing private beneficiary data to Trump's handpicked Acting Commissioner declaring living recipients to be deceased in order to claw back their benefits, Social Security is under fire.

Starting next week, a new rule will create further barriers, requiring in-person identity verification for those who are unable to register online. This will hurt the most vulnerable people in our community: people with disabilities, limited income, inadequate access to technology or transportation, and our seniors who rely on phone- based support. At the same time, the administration is planning to close offices around the country, making it even harder for people to access these services.

These reckless actions are robbing the hardworking men and women that I represent in western New York. It is a slap in the face to every American citizen who has spent decades paying into the system, and every widow, person with a disability, and child who lost a parent too soon who deserves and needs the benefits that allows them to survive.

Social Security is not a giveaway. The program is fully funded by the people who rely on it, by the sweat and hard-earned wages of American workers. Without Social Security, nearly 22 million Americans--many of them seniors on a fixed income or people with disabilities--will be plunged into poverty overnight.

In my district alone, over 167,000 people rely on Social Security benefits to pay their bills, put food on the table, and afford their prescriptions. It has allowed seniors to stay in their homes, help widows keep the lights on, and ensure that people who have worked their whole lives don't spend their final days scraping by.

Despite the incredible progress we have made as a Nation to keep people out of poverty, President Trump and Elon Musk are rolling back the clock in order to give tax cuts to billionaires and the ultrarich. Elon Musk even called Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time. Perhaps he has this confused with his own plan to cut taxes for the richest among us, including himself, at the expense of everyone else.

Congress must reject the administration's attempt to weaken Social Security. We need to fight tooth and nail against those who want to raise the retirement age, reduce benefits, or privatize this program for the benefit of corporations and the ultrarich. Instead, we should be strengthening Social Security to protect this vital safety net and fighting for an America where working people get to retire with dignity.

President Trump needs to keep his hands off Social Security.

Happy 100th Birthday to Edgar Carl Wilke

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a true American, World War II veteran Edgar Carl Wilke, as he celebrates his 100th birthday.

A resident of West Seneca, New York, Mr. Wilke served our Nation with courage in World War II, where he was wounded in battle defending the freedoms we hold dear. After enlisting from his hometown of Buffalo, he achieved the rank of private first class while serving in the 24th Infantry Division of the 21st Regiment.

For his bravery and heroic conduct in the Pacific theater, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. For wounds taken during the Battle of the Philippines, he received a Purple Heart. Along with these two high honors, he has received numerous other awards, including the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.

Mr. Wilke's sacrifice is a reminder that the liberties we enjoy today were secured by the bravery of patriots like him. We owe our veterans more than gratitude. We owe them our unwavering commitment to ensuring that they receive the care, benefits, respect, and recognition that they deserve.

On behalf of the people of western New York and a grateful Nation, I wish Mr. Wilke a very happy 100th birthday. I thank him for his service, and may his century of life continue to be an inspiration to us all.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to commemorate the 65th birthday of Robert D. Funderburg, a champion for the City of Buffalo, great supporter and advocate, and dear friend.

Robert D. Funderburg grew up on the East Side of Buffalo, New York, attending Bennett High School, where he played basketball. At Bennett, Robert's 1978 Basketball team won the Section VI, Class B Championship, besting the likes of other Buffalo and regional public high schools. After graduating from Bennett with honors, Robert demonstrated determination and initiative from an early age. Robert spent time working for the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority in transportation and claims investigations. As an investigator, Robert spent six years polishing his skills in contract review and project management.

After moving to California, Robert continued his work as an insurance investigator at Schifrin, Gagnon, and Dickey in Chatsworth, where he walked for seven years. As someone who has thrived on personal agency, Robert founded Funderburg Entertainment International in Los Angeles, providing personal management services for various musicians, tour management services, and contract negotiation. Leveraging his extensive background in investigations, Robert provided a leg up for artists, ensuring fair and beneficial contracts and broad exposure to audiences.

Returning to Buffalo, Robert worked in sales management at Hard Manufacturing, utilizing his skills as a marketer, manager, and salesman. Robert worked at Hard Manufacturing for six years, rising through the ranks to Regional Sales Manager by the end of his tenure. Robert is now an investigator for the City of Buffalo's Legal Department, continuing to serve his community to this day.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Robert has had an undeniable impact on Western New York. As a devoted volunteer, Robert has dedicated his life to empowering underrepresented individuals and creating an even playing field for Buffalonians. As Chairman of the Buffalo Black Achievers Entertainment Committee, he has worked to amplify young African-American voices in our community and the entertainment industry. Robert's co-founding of the Ron Brown Scholarship Foundation is a further testament to his work in creating an equitable and inclusive environment for Western New Yorkers, providing scholarships to the ``most talented and economically challenged high school seniors'' with involvement in public service and community engagement.

Beyond his volunteer work and professional career, above all else, Robert is a man of faith. Throughout his life, he has embodied what it means to be a loving neighbor. With faith as his driving force, Robert's life has been demonstrative of what it means to be a child of God. An integral piece to our ``City of Good Neighbors,'' Robert has enriched the Buffalo community and is indicative of years of hard work and selflessness. Please join me in wishing Robert D. Funderburg the happiest of birthdays, with many more to come.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the extraordinary life and lasting legacy of Dr. Nellie B. King, a trailblazer in education, a steadfast advocate for youth, and a devoted public servant to Western New York. Dr King's remarkable contributions, both in and out of the classroom, have left an enduring impact on generations and continue to serve as a powerful source of inspiration for those dedicated to empowering others.

With more than thirty-five years of service in education, Dr. King made history as the first African American Superintendent of the Lackawanna City School District. During her nine-year tenure, she spearheaded innovative programs such as the Kids in Spotlight Program, the Lackawanna Center for Family Achievement, and the District Model Aids Program, all of which brought meaningful and lasting change to the community.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. King was a passionate community leader, guided by her strong faith and commitment to service. She was an active member of Calvary Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Women's Missionary Council of the CME Church, and the World Federation of Methodist Women. Through her involvement in these organizations, Dr. King became a staunch advocate for social justice, equality, and empowerment, particularly for women and underrepresented groups.

Dr. King's exceptional contributions to education and community service were recognized with several prestigious awards. She received the National Association of Counties Achievement Award, the Buffalo Ambassador Award, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Education, reflecting her impact in both local and national spheres. In 2019, it was my privilege to name her a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction, a well-deserved honor that celebrated her decades of commitment to education, leadership, and community empowerment.

Today, we celebrate Dr. Nellie B. King--a pioneering educator, mentor, and visionary whose tireless efforts transformed not only the lives of her students but also the entire community. Her legacy is a testament to the profound influence one individual can have in creating hope, opportunity, and innovation for future generations.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor and celebrate Judy Collins, whose artistry and social activism have long inspired audiences worldwide. In the 1960s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations enjoy her iconic 55-album body of work, drawing inspiration from her spiritual discipline and her ability to thrive in the music industry for half a century.

Judy Collins has long been esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards, as well as her own poetically poignant original compositions. Throughout her career, she has garnered several top-ten hits and gold- and platinum- selling albums. Judy has long used her platform to advocate for the marginalized and the underserved, making her the ideal choice to lead as the Grand Marshal for the St. Pat's for All Parade, which celebrates the beauty of our shared humanity.

Established on March 5, 2000, the parade takes place in Queens' Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods, historically home to Irish Americans in New York. The St. Pat's for All Parade offers a welcoming space for all and highlights Irish American heritage while promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion, bringing together people of all backgrounds in a shared celebration of love and unity.

Mr. Speaker, Judy Collins' appointment as Grand Marshal for the St. Pat's for All Parade is a fitting tribute to her lifelong commitment to inclusivity, justice, and the celebration of diverse voices. Her presence as Grand Marshal not only honors the rich Irish heritage of the parade, but also reinforces the values of unity and equality that she has championed throughout her career. By leading this remarkable event, Judy continues to inspire us all to embrace our differences, stand up for what is right, and celebrate the strength found in our shared humanity.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the Right Honorable, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Micky Murray, who has been serving as the Lord Mayor of Belfast since June 3, 2024. Representing the Balmoral electoral area in South Belfast, Councillor Murray has been a member of Belfast council since 2022.

Councillor Murray made history as the first openly gay individual to hold the position of Lord Mayor of Belfast, a significant achievement for both the city and the LGBTQ+ community. Before entering politics, he worked in the housing sector, where he specialized in supporting individuals facing homelessness and addiction challenges--a testament to his commitment to serving the most vulnerable in society.

As Lord Mayor, Councillor Murray has been an outspoken advocate for inclusivity and representation, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community. His participation in events such as the Belfast Pride march and his support for LGBTQ+ veterans highlight his ongoing efforts to ensure that all voices are heard and valued in Belfast.

This year, Councillor Murray's leadership will be celebrated as he serves as Grand Marshal of the St. Pat's for All Parade. Established on March 5, 2000, the parade takes place in Queens' Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods, historically home to Irish Americans in New York. Mr. Speaker, Councillor Micky Murray's groundbreaking leadership as the first openly gay Lord Mayor of Belfast stands as a powerful symbol of progress and inclusivity. His steadfast advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community and his dedication to creating a more compassionate Belfast resonate deeply with the spirit of the St. Pat's for All Parade. Councillor Murray's work embodies justice and unity, highlighting the importance of representation and support for all. His efforts inspire us to embrace diversity and work toward a brighter, more united future for everyone.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life of James Doherty--a remarkable public servant and family man whose perseverance and loyalty will continue to serve as an example for all those hoping to make a change in the world. A graduate of Bishop Timon- St. Jude High School and Buffalo State University, Mr. Doherty went into the world wanting to make a difference. Upon graduation, he worked as a special education teacher at South Park High School until he ran for office.

Mr. Doherty was the youngest elected At-Large Councilman in the Buffalo Common Council. During his tenure, he was a fierce advocate for the people he represented, especially the most vulnerable in our community, Including women, people of color, and anyone who was disenfranchised. He always kept a picture of his two beloved daughters, Brigid and Leah, behind his desk. Whenever someone came in with a request, he would point to the photo and say: ``I do everything for those two, so make sure whatever you're asking of me I can be proud to share with them.''

Mr. Doherty would go on to be a mentor and a friend to many and remained active in city policymaking, inspiring generations of civic- minded Buffalonians. After retiring from politics, Jimmy led a selfless career in student transportation, holding executive roles at National School Bus, Laidlaw Education Service, and later First Student. Each Fall, Western New Yorkers could rely on Jimmy to help them usher in a safe return to school. A president of the Wanakah Country Club, Jimmy was an avid golfer and passionate sports fan.

When he wasn't helping others, he could be found on the green with his favorite golf partner and best friend, his brother Jerry. Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife Marleah, his devoted children Brigid Doherty and Leah Roberts, his loving grandchildren, Haley and Sophia Jones, and Anna and Harrison Roberts, as well as countless other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Jimmy's loyalty to his family and devotion to his city made him a model leader--one whom all Buffalonians can look up to with pride and admiration.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize Consul General Helena Nolan, who has been serving as the Consul General of Ireland in New York since August 2021. Consul General Nolan's career is a testament to her unwavering commitment to public service and diplomacy. She joined Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs in 1990, after an initial seven years in the Department of Education, where she worked on educational policy. Her passion for international relations and public service led her to transition to diplomacy, where she has achieved a remarkable career.

Throughout her career, Consul General Nolan has held a wide variety of roles both at home and abroad, showcasing her versatility and dedication. Most recently, she served as Ireland's Ambassador to Belgium from 2017 to 2021, a role that was critical in strengthening Ireland's ties with the European Union and NATO. During this time, she also headed the Partnership for Peace Liaison Office, representing Ireland's interests in international security and peacekeeping. This diverse range of experience has made her a well-rounded and insightful leader in Ireland's foreign service, committed to advancing Ireland's role in global diplomacy and international relations.

Established on March 5, 2000, the parade takes place in Queens' Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods, historically home to Irish Americans in New York. The St. Pat's for All Parade offers a welcoming space for all and highlights Irish American heritage while promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion, bringing together people of all backgrounds in a shared celebration of love and unity.

Her leadership not only strengthens the relationship between Ireland and the United States, but also exemplifies the values of unity, inclusivity, and mutual respect. Consul General Nolan's work continues to inspire us all to embrace our shared heritage, stand up for the causes that matter, and celebrate the power of international cooperation. Through her unwavering commitment to her country and her role in fostering stronger global connections, she reminds us of the importance of service, community, and the bonds that unite us across borders and, we are all better for it.
