1. Adds SEC. 526. AUTHORIZED SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF THE RETIRED RESERVE IN CERTAIN HIGH-LEVEL NATIONAL GUARD BUREAU POSITIONS at the end of subtitle B of title V

   Adds a section

   Section 305(a)(5) of title 32, United States Code, is amended by striking "or the United States Coast Guard Academy" and inserting "the United States Coast Guard Academy, or the United States Merchant Marine Academy".

   Inserted: SEC. 526. AUTHORIZED SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF THE RETIRED RESERVE IN CERTAIN HIGH-LEVEL NATIONAL GUARD BUREAU POSITIONS.

   Inserted: (a) Chief of the National Guard Bureau.--Section 10502(a) of title 10, United States Code, is amended--

   Inserted: (1) in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by inserting ", or members of the Retired Reserve who served as officers of the Army National Guard of the United States or the Air National Guard of the United States," after "Air National Guard of the United States"; and

   Inserted: (2) in paragraph (4), by inserting "or retired in a grade above brigadier general, as applicable" before the semicolon.

   Inserted: (b) Director of the Joint Staff of the National Guard Bureau.--Section 10505(a) of such title is amended--

   Inserted: (1) in paragraph (1)--

   Inserted: (A) in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by inserting ", or members of the Retired Reserve who served as officers of the Army National Guard of the United States or the Air National Guard of the United States," after "Air National Guard of the United States"; and

   Inserted: (B) in subparagraph (C), by inserting "or retired in a grade above colonel, as applicable" before the period; and

   Inserted: (2) in paragraph (2), by inserting "or retired members" after "members".

   Inserted: (c) Other Senior National Guard Bureau Positions.--Section 10506(a) of such title is amended--

   Inserted: (1) in paragraph (1)--

   Inserted: (A) in subparagraph (A), by striking "two general officers" and all that follows through "United States" and inserting "two individuals selected by the Secretary of the Army from general officers of the Army National Guard of the United States and members of the Retired Reserve who served as general officers of the Army National Guard of the United States"; and
