1. Adds SEC. __. ZERO EMISSION BUS DEPLOYMENT PROGRAM at the appropriate place in division B

   Inserted: SEC. __. ZERO EMISSION BUS DEPLOYMENT PROGRAM.

   Inserted: (a) In General.--Section 5307 of title 49, United States Code, as amended by this division, is further amended by adding at the end the following:

   Inserted: "(j) Zero Emission Bus Deployment Grant Program.--

   Inserted: "(1) In general.--The Secretary shall make grants under this section for the purchase of zero emission buses and the establishment of related fueling infrastructure and facilities.

   Inserted: "(2) Competitive process.--The Secretary shall solicit grant applications and make grants for eligible projects on a competitive basis.

   Inserted: "(3) Priority consideration.--In awarding grants under this subsection, the Secretary shall give priority to applications for projects that offer high levels of performance and service with respect to--

   Inserted: "(A) bus utility and performance, including--

   Inserted: "(i) operating range and sustained power;

   Inserted: "(ii) refueling time;

   Inserted: "(iii) passenger capacity;

   Inserted: "(iv) revenue service time;

   Inserted: "(v) operational availability; and

   Inserted: "(vi) route service flexibility;

   Inserted: "(B) maturity of technology, including--

   Inserted: "(i) demonstrated revenue service operation; and

   Inserted: "(ii) any resulting performance data; and

   Inserted: "(C) fuel economy.".

   Inserted: (b) Apportionments.--Section 5336(h) of title 49, United States Code, as amended by this division, is further amended--

   Inserted: (1) by redesignating paragraphs (2), (3), and (4) as paragraphs (3), (4), and (5), respectively;

   Inserted: (2) by inserting after paragraph (1) the following:

   Inserted: "(2) $35,000,000 shall be set aside to carry out section 5307(j);";

   Inserted: (3) in paragraph (4), as redesignated, by striking "paragraphs (1) and (2)" and inserting "paragraphs (1) through (3)"; and

   Inserted: (4) in paragraph (5), as redesignated, by striking "paragraphs (1), (2), and (3)" and inserting "paragraphs (1) through (4)".
