Introduced March 2, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 1:21 PM UTC

The Veterans' Compensation Cost‑of‑Living Adjustment Act of 2017 raises the monthly payments that veterans with service‑connected disabilities receive, as well as the benefits paid to surviving spouses and children. The increase takes effect on Dec. 1, 2017 and is tied to the same percentage rise applied to Social Security benefits at that time. The bill applies to all eligible veterans, their dependents, and certain other persons who receive VA compensation.

Key Provisions

  • Effective Dec. 1, 2017, the VA must raise disability compensation, dependent and indemnity compensation, and the clothing allowance by the same percentage that Social Security benefits increase on that date.
  • The specific benefit categories affected include wartime disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, the clothing allowance, and survivor benefits for spouses and children.
  • The VA Secretary may also make administrative adjustments for certain individuals who receive compensation under older statutes but not under the current VA compensation chapters.
