Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act of 2017

Introduced May 16, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 3:43 PM UTC

The Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act of 2017 makes a permanent change to Medicare coverage for speech‑generating devices. It removes the rental‑cap limit that was only temporary, allowing Medicare beneficiaries who need these devices to receive them without a set rental ceiling. The change applies to anyone enrolled in Medicare who requires a speech‑generating device as durable medical equipment.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Social Security Act by deleting the phrase “and before October 1, 2018,” from the section that set a temporary rental‑cap deadline for speech‑generating devices, thereby making the removal of the cap permanent.
