Prevention of Private Information Dissemination Act of 2017

Introduced November 8, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 7:09 PM UTC

The Prevention of Private Information Dissemination Act of 2017 adds a criminal penalty for federal officers or employees who improperly share personal data contained in certain "living will" and stress‑test determinations. It ties those disclosures to existing privacy protections under the Freedom of Information Act, making unauthorized releases a punishable offense. The bill affects federal agencies that handle such determinations and their staff.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Financial Stability Act of 2010 to apply the privacy‑protection rules of 5 U.S.C. 552a(i)(1) to living‑will and stress‑test determinations that contain individually identifiable information.
  • Creates a criminal penalty for any unauthorized disclosure of that information by a federal officer or employee.
