Ensuring Small Scale LNG Certainty and Access Act

Introduced December 11, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 7:40 PM UTC

The Ensuring Small Scale LNG Certainty and Access Act changes the Natural Gas Act so that applications to import or export small amounts of natural gas are automatically approved. It applies to any request to move up to 0.14 billion cubic feet per day and removes the need for an environmental impact statement or assessment. The rule speeds up and simplifies the process for small‑scale LNG projects, affecting companies seeking such imports or exports and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that reviews them.

Key Provisions

  • Amends Section 3(c) of the Natural Gas Act to add a new subsection stating that applications for importing or exporting natural gas not exceeding 0.14 billion cubic feet per day are deemed in the public interest and must be granted without modification or delay.
  • Specifies that these small‑scale applications do not require an environmental impact statement or environmental assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act.
