AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 9:50 PM UTC

The Protecting Family Resources and Training Options Act amends Title IV‑A of the Social Security Act to improve oversight of state‑run assistance programs and to broaden work‑related training support. It applies federal improper‑payments laws to states that receive funding under this title and requires new regulations for reviewing and reporting such payments. It also expands the ability to provide career and technical education as part of work‑support services.

Key Provisions

  • Applies the Improper Payments Information Act of 2002 and the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act of 2010 to states receiving Title IV‑A funds, treating them like federal agencies for improper‑payment rules.
  • Mandates that the Secretary of Health and Human Services issue regulations within two years on how states must review and report improper payments under these programs.
  • Amends the provision that limits support for work to 12 months, removing that limit and adding "and career and technical education" to allow broader training options.
