Allowing Working Seniors to Keep Their Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018

Introduced July 6, 2018

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 10:52 PM UTC

The bill changes the tax law so that people who are 65 or older and receive Medicare Part A because of their age can still make contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA). It would let working seniors keep their HSAs even after they become eligible for Medicare, affecting seniors who are still employed and want to use HSAs for medical expenses.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Internal Revenue Code to add a new exception (entitlement to Medicare Part A by age) that permits those seniors to contribute to HSAs.
  • Updates related language in the code to ensure the new exception is excluded from other restrictions on HSA contributions.
  • Sets the changes to take effect for months beginning after December 31, 2018, and for taxable years ending after that date.
