Introduced July 10, 2018

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 10:48 PM UTC

The RAISE VET FUND Act would let veterans service organizations raise money at U.S. post offices during the days surrounding federal holidays. It adds a new provision to the postal code that specifically permits these groups to distribute veteran‑related items and solicit donations on business days within a two‑day window before and after each holiday. The law requires the Postal Service to issue rules for how the fundraising can be done, and the changes would take effect a few months after the bill becomes law.

Key Provisions

  • Amends 39 U.S.C. §404 to add a new subsection allowing veterans service organizations to solicit donations at post offices during a "holiday period" (the two business days before and after a federal holiday).
  • Defines key terms such as "business day," "Federal holiday," "holiday period," and "veterans service organization."
  • Requires the United States Postal Service to issue regulations governing the scheduling and conduct of these solicitations within 90 days of enactment.
  • Sets the new solicitation authority to become effective 120 days after the law is enacted.
