Introduced April 4, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 2:43 PM UTC

The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Land Transfer Act of 2017 directs the Department of Health and Human Services to transfer about 19 acres of federal land in Sitka, Alaska, to the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. The land is to be used for health and social services, and the transfer is made without any payment or ongoing conditions. The bill also shields the Consortium from liability for any environmental contamination that existed before the transfer.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of Health and Human Services must convey the described property to the Consortium within two years of the law’s enactment, using a warranty deed.
  • The transfer requires no payment, imposes no obligations on the Consortium, and does not allow the United States to retain a reversionary interest.
  • The property consists of 19.07 acres in Sitka (specific lots in U.S. Survey 1496).
  • The Consortium is not liable for any soil, water, or other contamination that existed on the land before the transfer; the Secretary remains liable only for contamination that occurs after the Consortium takes control.
  • The Secretary retains any easement or access needed to fulfill its remaining obligations, and must follow CERCLA notice requirements when completing the transfer.
