Introduced January 17, 2017

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 15, 2026 at 11:47 AM UTC

This joint resolution aims to eliminate the time limit that was set for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). It says that the ERA will become part of the Constitution once three‑quarters of the states approve it, no matter what deadline was previously imposed. The change affects the constitutional amendment process and any state that chooses to ratify the ERA.

Key Provisions

  • States can ratify the ERA at any time; the original deadline in the 1972 joint resolution is no longer applicable.
  • The ERA becomes valid as part of the Constitution once ratified by three‑fourths of the states, regardless of any prior time limit.
