The Taxpayers DIME Act of 2019 aims to stop federal money from being spent on travel that breaks existing travel regulations for senior government officials. The bill applies to any senior federal official as defined by current regulations.

Key Provisions

  • Prohibits the use of any federal funds for travel expenses of senior federal officials when that travel violates specific travel regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Requires each federal agency’s head to submit a quarterly report to the House Oversight and Reform Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee detailing any travel on government aircraft by senior officials, excluding classified trips.
  • Mandates that the Director of the Office of Government Ethics deliver a report to Congress within one year, with recommendations for strengthening federal travel rules, and publish the report publicly.
