AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 4:42 AM UTC

This bill amends the National Trails System Act to require the Secretary of the Interior to study whether the Chief Standing Bear National Historic Trail can be officially designated. The study would look at a roughly 550‑mile route from Niobrara, Nebraska, to Ponca City, Oklahoma, and the return route back to Niobrara, covering historic paths taken by Chief Standing Bear and the Ponca people during their forced removal. The outcome would affect federal trail designation and management in Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a new subsection to the National Trails System Act describing the Chief Standing Bear National Historic Trail and its approximate 550‑mile route in both directions.
  • Directs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a feasibility study on designating this trail as a National Historic Trail.
