The bill amends the Higher Education Act to broaden the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. It adds a new category of eligible workers: full‑time health‑care practitioners who provide services at nonprofit or public hospitals or other nonprofit/public health facilities and who, because of state law, cannot be employed directly by those facilities. This change would allow such practitioners to have their federal student loans forgiven after meeting the program’s service requirements.

  • Defines eligibility for loan forgiveness as a full‑time health‑care practitioner who works at a nonprofit or public hospital or other nonprofit/public health‑care facility.
  • Requires that the practitioner be prohibited by state law from being employed directly by the facility.
