AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 11:44 AM UTC

The Improving Emergency Disease Response via Housing Act of 2020 directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to share location data about supportive housing for elderly residents and areas with high concentrations of unsheltered homelessness with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The goal is to help HHS target COVID‑19 outreach and services to people most at risk. The bill requires that any shared data be stripped of personal identifiers and used only for this public‑health purpose.

Key Provisions

  • HUD must provide HHS with information on where supportive housing projects for the elderly and Continuums of Care with many unsheltered homeless individuals are located.
  • All personally identifiable information must be removed before the data is shared, and HUD must put safeguards in place to protect privacy.
  • HUD must promptly consult with HHS after the law takes effect to arrange the data sharing.
  • The shared information may not be disclosed to any agency beyond HHS or used for any purpose other than the intended public‑health outreach.
