Homeless Veteran Families Act

Introduced January 3, 2019

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 13, 2026 at 11:49 PM UTC

The Homeless Veteran Families Act changes the way per‑diem grants for homeless veterans are calculated by adding a provision for children in the veteran’s care. It inserts a new option that lets the daily cost of care include an extra amount for each minor dependent, equal to half of the base daily cost. The change affects homeless veterans receiving grant‑based services and the agencies that administer those grants.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a new clause (iii) to the grant‑calculation formula, allowing the daily cost of care to include an additional amount for each minor dependent the veteran cares for
  • Specifies that the additional amount for each child is 50% of the base daily cost of care
  • Applies to homeless veterans who have custody of a minor while receiving services from grant recipients or eligible entities
