The Rapid Coverage for Coronavirus Vaccines Act would force private health insurers—both group plans and individual policies—to pay for coronavirus‑related preventive services and vaccines. Coverage must begin quickly, within about three weeks after an official health‑agency recommendation, ensuring that people can get these services without delay.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Labor, and the Treasury must require insurers to cover any "qualifying coronavirus preventive service" (including vaccines).
  • A service qualifies if it is either (A) rated A or B by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, or (B) recommended by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
  • Coverage must start 15 business days after the relevant rating or recommendation is issued.
  • The rule overrides existing provisions of the Public Health Service Act that might otherwise limit such coverage.
