Tribal Medical Supplies Stockpile Access Act of 2020

Introduced March 17, 2020

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 11:32 AM UTC

The Tribal Medical Supplies Stockpile Access Act of 2020 changes federal law so that the Department of Health and Human Services must deliver strategic national stockpile items and other qualified pandemic or epidemic products straight to Indian Health Service facilities, tribal health entities, and urban Indian organizations. It ensures these groups receive supplies directly, works with state partners, and prevents duplicate deliveries.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Public Health Service Act to require the HHS Secretary, when deploying the Strategic National Stockpile, to send drugs, vaccines, medical devices, and other supplies directly to health programs or facilities run by the Indian Health Service, Indian tribes, tribal organizations, inter‑tribal consortia, or urban Indian organizations, coordinating with states and avoiding duplicate shipments.
  • Adds a new provision that when the Secretary distributes qualified pandemic or epidemic products, those items must also be sent directly to the same Indian health programs and facilities, again in coordination with states and without duplicative distributions.
