Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2019

Introduced March 12, 2019

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 3:01 AM UTC

The Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2019 renews the federal program that funds diesel‑emissions reduction projects, extending its authorization from the previous 2016 deadline to 2024. It updates the language for national and state grant, rebate, and loan programs so they can account for regional differences in vehicle, engine, equipment, and fleet usage. The bill also changes how unused state‑level funds are treated, directing those monies to support the national program.

Key Provisions

  • Extends the diesel emissions reduction program’s authorization to 2024 (instead of ending in 2016).
  • Adds language to national grant, rebate, and loan provisions allowing consideration of typical vehicle, engine, equipment, and fleet use differences across the United States.
  • Amends state grant, rebate, and loan rules to similarly recognize regional usage differences, including expected useful life of equipment.
  • Redirects any unused state grant funds to be used for carrying out the national diesel emissions reduction activities.
