Introduced May 7, 2021

AI-Generated Summary

Updated February 8, 2026 at 2:38 AM UTC

The Kenneth Meisel Public Servants’ Claimant Fairness Act lengthens the deadline for federal employees filing a claim under the Federal Employees Compensation Act to provide supporting documentation. It changes the allowed period from 30 days to 60 days, giving claimants more time to gather needed evidence. The change applies to all claimants dealing with the Office of Workers’ Compensation.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of Labor must, within 60 days of the law’s enactment, amend the federal regulations (section 10.121 of title 20, CFR) to replace the 30‑day deadline with a 60‑day deadline.
  • The Federal Employees Compensation Act manual must be updated to reflect the new 60‑day documentation period.
