AI-Generated Summary

The Firearm Lockbox Protection Act of 2023 requires that federal judges and administrative judges who legally own firearms have a secure storage facility, such as a lockbox, at their workplace. The law directs the General Services Administration to provide these storage units for Article III judges and mandates each agency employing administrative judges to do the same. This aims to improve safety by ensuring firearms are safely stored while judges are on duty.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a new subsection to 28 U.S.C. §462 authorizing the GSA Administrator, upon the Director’s request, to supply a secure firearms storage facility at the official duty station of each federal judge or justice.
  • Requires every agency that employs an administrative judge to provide a secure firearms storage facility at that judge’s principal duty station for any lawfully possessed firearm.
