AI-Generated Summary

Updated January 20, 2026 at 4:08 PM UTC

The Medicaid Program Improvement Act updates Medicaid rules to make sure the address information for enrollees is accurate and up‑to‑date. Starting January 1, 2026, states must regularly obtain and act on address data from reliable sources for Medicaid participants in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The bill also extends the new address‑verification requirement to the Children’s Health Insurance Program and requires managed‑care contractors to send any updated address information they receive directly to the state.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a new requirement (paragraph 88) that states regularly obtain address information for Medicaid enrollees from reliable data sources and update records accordingly, effective Jan 1 2026 for the 50 states and DC.
  • Amends the CHIP statute to reference the new Medicaid address‑information requirement, ensuring the same standards apply to CHIP participants.
  • Requires managed‑care contracts under state Medicaid plans to include a clause that the managed‑care entity must transmit any address information it receives or verifies for an enrollee to the state, also effective Jan 1 2026.
