AI-Generated Summary

Updated May 8, 2026 at 8:22 AM UTC

This joint resolution uses the Congressional Review Act to reject a rule the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) submitted that would have withdrawn an existing consumer‑financial‑protection circular about insufficient data protection for sensitive consumer information. By disapproving the withdrawal, Congress keeps the original circular in force, meaning the data‑protection requirements remain applicable to financial institutions and other covered entities.

Key Provisions

  • Congress formally disapproves the CFPB’s rule that would withdraw Circular 2022‑04 on insufficient data protection.
  • The disapproved rule is declared to have no legal effect, so the original circular’s requirements stay in place.
