The LABEL Act amends the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 to require that fish sold to consumers include clear labeling of both the country where the fish was sourced and whether it is wild‑caught or farm‑raised. The rule applies to any covered fish commodity and takes effect one year after the law is passed, affecting fish producers, packagers, and retailers.

Key Provisions

  • Fish labels must show the country of origin and the production method (wild or farm‑raised) together in one statement, not separately.
  • The information must be placed in a conspicuous spot that consumers can easily read under normal shopping conditions, using a font size at least as large as the rest of the label.
  • If the fish is sold in a consumer package, the label must appear on the front of the package.
  • The new labeling requirements become effective one year after the act is enacted.
