Introduced October 6, 2026

AI-Generated Summary

Updated October 8, 2026 at 3:41 AM UTC

The Tribal Veterans Voucher Flexibility Act requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create a system that lets Indian tribes and tribally designated housing entities voluntarily give up unused HUD-VASH vouchers and have those vouchers reassigned to other tribes that need them. The program must be in place within 180 days of the law’s enactment and includes a reporting requirement to Congress on voucher use and needs.

Key Provisions

  • HUD must establish a voluntary voucher‑reallocation program for the Tribal HUD‑VASH program within 180 days.
  • Tribes with unused vouchers can notify HUD of those vouchers, and tribes needing vouchers can request them; HUD may then reallocate the unused vouchers.
  • HUD must submit a report to the relevant House and Senate committees within 180 days detailing unused vouchers, reallocation outcomes, shortages, and recommendations for better distribution or possible increases in overall voucher numbers.
  • Reallocation of unused vouchers does not affect a tribe’s future eligibility or allocation of vouchers.
