The Acquired Lands Revenue Modernization Act changes the Mineral Leasing statutes so that a larger portion of the money earned from oil and gas leases on federally‑acquired lands goes to the states where the lands are located. It updates the legal language of the Mineral Leasing Act for Acquired Lands and the broader Mineral Leasing Act to reflect this shift in revenue sharing.

Key Provisions

  • Amends Section 6(a) of the Mineral Leasing Act for Acquired Lands by removing the phrase that limited revenue sharing to the provisions of Section 35(b) and by replacing language about “other receipts” with a direct reference to Section 35, thereby opening the revenue stream to state shares.
  • Amends Section 35(a) of the Mineral Leasing Act to revise the list of items covered (adding rentals and oil‑and‑gas leases from acquired lands) and to clarify that these leases are included under the act’s revenue‑sharing provisions.
