Updated October 17, 2026 at 3:21 AM UTC

The Acquired Lands Revenue Modernization Act changes the Mineral Leasing Act to raise the portion of oil and gas lease revenue that goes to states for lands the federal government has acquired. By revising how receipts are handled, the bill aims to give states a larger share of the money generated from leasing these lands.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Mineral Leasing Act for Acquired Lands to remove language that limits how lease receipts are treated and instead ties those receipts directly to the broader revenue‑sharing rules in Section 35 of the Mineral Leasing Act.
  • Updates Section 35 of the Mineral Leasing Act to clarify that rentals and oil and gas leases on acquired lands are included in the revenue‑sharing calculations, ensuring those lease payments count toward the state’s share.
