Protecting Domestic Mining Act of 2025

To amend the FAST Act to include certain mineral production activities as a covered project, and for other purposes.

Introduced February 21, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated September 17, 2026 at 4:41 AM UTC

The Protecting Domestic Mining Act of 2025 amends the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act to treat mining and mineral processing activities as "covered projects" under the law. It also blocks a specific federal rule that would change how mining projects are counted for FAST Act eligibility. The changes affect federal agencies that oversee transportation and permitting, as well as mining companies seeking project approvals.

Key Provisions

  • Adds the words “mining, mineral processing” to the FAST Act definition of a covered project, so those activities are now subject to the Act’s requirements and funding rules.
  • Bars the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing a proposed rule that would revise the scope of the mining sector for FAST Act project eligibility.
