The Big Bend National Park Boundary Adjustment Act lets the Interior Department add roughly 6,100 acres to Big Bend National Park in Texas. The land can be obtained only through donation or exchange, not by forcing a sale. After acquisition, the park’s boundary will be updated and the new area will be managed as part of the park.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of the Interior may acquire about 6,100 acres of land shown on a specific map by donation or land exchange, but cannot use eminent domain or condemnation.
  • Once acquired, the park’s boundary will be officially revised to include the new land.
  • The newly added land will be managed as part of Big Bend National Park under existing park laws and regulations.
  • The map showing the proposed boundary change must be kept on file and made available for public inspection.
