Maritime Supply Chain Security Act

Introduced March 26, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated November 24, 2025 at 1:37 AM UTC

The Maritime Supply Chain Security Act updates U.S. law to let federal port‑infrastructure funds be used for removing or upgrading Chinese‑made crane equipment at U.S. ports. By clarifying that money can target hardware or software installed by, supplied by, or controlled by the Chinese government, the bill aims to reduce potential security risks in the maritime supply chain. It applies to U.S. ports that receive federal infrastructure funding.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the port infrastructure development program rules to explicitly allow the use of its funds for projects that upgrade or replace port crane hardware or software that was installed, provided, or is controlled by the People’s Republic of China.
  • Keeps existing authority for projects that improve overall port resilience, adding the new Chinese‑crane replacement language as a separate category.
